ASDS/A 2020 Annual Report
INTERNATIONAL EFFORTS ASDS offers learning across the globe with outreach efforts established through the Lawrence M. Field, MD, International Dermatologic Surgery Educational Exchange Fund. The International Traveling Mentorship Program now has over 200 hosts and mentors from 35 countries. Annually through the International Preceptorship Program, one international dermatologic surgeon is selected to visit a preceptor in the United States to learn techniques and procedures not available in his/her country of origin. The International Dermatologic Surgery Fellowship Recognition Program utilizes ASDS resources and the abilities of ASDS members to provide guidance and credentials to international applicant programs looking to start and maintain a training program. There are four ASDS-recognized international training programs in South Africa, Romania, Pakistan and the Netherlands. Although these programs were impacted with the pandemic for the 2020 year, the various online, digital and on-demand education offered through the year allowed us to reach any dermatologists around the globe.
Lawrence M. Field, MD 8/3/1929 – 10/2/2020
FIELD LEGACY In 2020, we lost a dynamic force in our specialty with the passing of Lawrence M. Field, MD. Dr. Field was a respected dermatologic surgeon and dedicated educator. Dr. Field was a bridge between many international arms of our specialty. His exten- sive career took him to multiple countries and innumerable universities throughout the world, lecturing and demonstrating varying procedures and techniques used in dermatologic reconstructive, cosmetic and liposuction surgery — all efforts enlarging the parameters of global dermatologic surgery. Dr. Field was a great supporter of ASDS and instrumental in the creation of the International Traveling Mentorship Program (ITMP). In 2010, ASDS created the first of its kind, “Lawrence Field, MD, International Dermatologic Surgery Educational Exchange Fund. Then in 2012, ASDS established its first lectureship in perpetuity bearing the name, "The Annual Lawrence Field Honorary Lectureship." This was created in celebration of Dr. Field’s generosity and lifelong contributions to dermatologic surgery as an internationally renowned educator and pioneer.
