ASDS/A 2020 Annual Report

PANDEMIC RESPONSE AND RECOVERY

As the pandemic impacted ASDS members, their patients, families and communities, ASDS/A quickly pivoted to support them during this chaotic time. Gathering resources across departments, agencies and other associations, staff worked to create timely information, webinars, patient education and recovery guidance to ensure our members moved forward on a positive path.

• ASDSA continuously updated resource organizing state-issued guidance for reopening medical practices, PPE protocols and telemedicine statues and regulations. • Participation in the AMA Mask-up campaign offering support of mask wearing in public through social posts, emails and alerts. • Virtual interview training and practice offered to residents exploring fellowship opportunities. • The first virtual ASDS Annual Meeting, offering various COVID-19 aligned sessions and topics. • A strategic partnership with CheckedUp, a physician-founded specialty technology platform designed for point of care and active engagement between patients and physicians in the waiting room, exam room or at home via telehealth. • ASDS Fellowship Structured Didactics and Cosmetic Fellowship Lecture Series created to "be together, apart" to supplement fellowship education during the pandemic, accessible on ASDS Learn .

COVID-19 exclusive member resources: • Member pandemic needs survey driving support tools and resource creation. • Members-only COVID-19 resource webpage ( asds.net/covid-19 ). • Hosted 23 complimentary webinars covering the CARES Act, finances during the COVID-19 crisis, tactical marketing infor- mation to emerge from the pandemic and much more.

• COVID-19 public health resources webpage ( asds.net/covid-19-public-health-resources ). • Various patient education materials from digital handouts and videos.

• Creation of ASDSA/ASLMS Joint Guidance for Reopening Cosmetic Practices with current data and recommendations. ( bit.ly/DermReopeningGuidance ) • Instagram Live “ Derm Surgery Sunday ” resident education series. • Visiting Professor Program went virtual, offering webinars in which all residents can benefit from experts lecturing covering both Mohs and cosmetic topics. • ASDS Connect digital community launched a dedicated COVID-19 Shared Interest Group (SIG) for members to ask questions, share advice and resources ( asds.net/Connect ).

WHAT IS COVID-19? Symptoms • Fever • Cough • Difficulty breathing • Loss of taste and/or smell • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest • New confusion or inability to arouse • Bluish lips or face • Gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea High risk populations: • Adults older than 65 years old. • People with underlying medical conditions including, but not limited to, heart or lung disease or diabetes.

Medications that might increase risk: • Prednisone/CsA

EVERYONE is at risk. All ages and races have been diagnosed and have died from this virus. Please take this virus seriously and protect yourself, your family and your communities. HOW TO PREVENT GETTING THE VIRUS: Disinfect • Frequent hand washing (at least 20 seconds with soap and water or a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol). Use moisturizing hand cream to avoid cracks and skin breakdown. • Avoid touching your face. • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. Social distancing • Avoid large gatherings of 10 or more. • Limit / avoid travel. • Maintain at least a 6-foot distance between yourself and others. • Stay at home whenever possible. Wear a mask • Before putting on a mask, clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water. • Cover mouth and nose with mask and make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask. • Avoid touching the mask while using it; if you do, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
