Advocacy REAFFIRMED POSITION STATEMENTS

ASDSA Position Statements are approved by the ASDSA Board of Directors to communicate the Association’s policy on issues related to patient safety and the practice of dermatologic surgery. Position statements are developed through a consensus-building approach that seek to convene diverse perspectives and areas of expertise related to the respective issue. In 2020, reaffirmations, additions or updates were made on a variety of topics. Reaffirmed or updated positions statements included:

• Chemical Peels • Delegation • Dermatopathology • Indoor Tanning • Laser Use • License Portability • Regulation of Physician Assistants • Sun-safe Behavior in School-aged Children • Transparency in Billing (NEW) • Truth in Advertising

STATE FOCUS

The Association’s efforts helped keep dermatologic surgery patients safe across the country. Identifying and acting upon key legislation is integeral to our success and allows ASDSA to react and respond, as necessary. In 2020, ASDSA monitored 281 pieces of state legislation and 34 regulations. Advocating for patient safety is ASDSA's mission. In 2020, ASDSA developed and promoted three model bills. Model legislation enables ASDSA to communicate its key efforts through sample policy.
